1977 Topps Baseball #170 - Thurman Munson

• The 1977 season was the last one in which Thurman Munson would be in double figures in home runs. Munson had good batting averages in the last two seasons of his shortened career, but he didn't hit for as much power. Munson played in 140 or more games in seven straight seasons (1972-1978).

• Munson was 7th in AL MVP voting in 1977.
• After the 1977 season Thurman asked to be traded to the Cleveland Indians in order to be close to his home. The Yankees and the Indians were unable to work out a deal and Munson stayed with the Yankees.

• May 27 - Drove in two runs and scored another as the Yankees beat the Chicago White Sox 8-6.
• July 8 - Had a 2-run homer and a 2-run single as the Yankees beat the Baltimore Orioles 7-5.
• Sept 28 - Homered and got two additional hits to help the Yankees beat the Cleveland Indians 10-0. The win clinched a tie for the AL East title for the Yankees.
